Kenyan insurance companies to cover treatment

The head of the regulatory body of insurance companies in Kenya has announced that policyholders infected and/or affected by the coronavirus will have their medical expenses covered.

There has been a concern in the country since the announcement of the first Covid-19 case, that patients would not be covered because the disease has been labeled a pandemic.

The Commissioner of Insurance Godfrey Kiptum said in a statement that the measure was meant to help curb the spread of the virus:

Quote Message: I would like to assure the public that the insurance companies will continue to provide their services to policyholders, affected or infected with the virus. This consideration has been arrived at in support of the government’s mitigation measures.”
