KAMPALA – Mr. Alex Luganda, the lawyer of Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde, has said that he is receiving death threats from different people, warning him to stop representing the former security minister.
According to Mr. Luganda, many security officials in civilian clothes have been trailing him since last Thursday when his client was arrested.
“I have received threats from different people. Right now, six security officers in civilian clothes were deployed around my office. Others are following wherever I go,” he said, appealing for protection.
On Thursday, a joint security team raided his office in Kololo in the capital Kampala and blocked anyone leaving or getting out. Mr. Luganda in the company of Lt Gen Tumukunde witnessed the search.
Later, 15 members of his consultative committee were arrested. His offices were searched by police and military the next day. He was later detained at Special Investigations Unit at Kireka for interrogation on treason charges.
Lt Gen Tumukunde is still admitted to Kampala hospital after he collapsed in detention at the Special Investigations Unit at Kireka. Luganda, yesterday declined to comment on his client’s health status, saying he needed to get permission from him.
Mr. Enanga said they had halted the search at his homes and offices since it required his personal presence.
