The president of the Democratic Party (DP), Mr. Norbert Mao, has said he pities Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine because the latter is being used by self-seekers. According to Mr. Mao, a section of DP Members of Parliament are using Bobi Wine’s People Power movement to retain their seats in next year’s elections.“Those rebel party members are survival seekers who only intend to achieve re-election and maintain a fertile salary in the upcoming Parliament,” Mr. Mao told journalists in Kampala on Tuesday. Mao described this same group of MPs, which is opposed to his administration, as creeping plants seeking to ride on Bobi Wine’s popularity.
“DP was the first to give Bobi Wine the audience when the others were not sure of what to do. We gave him space starting with the reunion conference but they started saying that I am a sadist and I pity those masqueraders,” he said. He was reacting to last Friday’s event when a group opposed to Mr Mao’s leadership elected members to fill up positions on the 32-man NEC. Elected members include Mr. Medard Lubega Sseggona (secretary-general), Matia Lwanga Bwanika (national chairman), Mary Babirye Kabanda (national treasurer), and Patrick Katuramu (deputy treasurer). Others are Racheal Kagoye (deputy women leader) and Alex Kiwanuka (Busoga region representative).
But Mr. Mao called the new NEC members as masqueraders and a bunch of sectarian politicians. He said since his election, many groups within DP have emerged simply to fight him “That’s why I was saying that am sorry for the young man because the crippling plants want to use him. For us in DP we say that we have been pushing Museveni like a car for 35 years but it has refused to start and when a young man like Bobi wine come we should give him some space,” he said
